Traditional air-supported tent
A traditional air-filled tent can be made with a single-layer design, but a two-layer construction is most common because it provides better thermal insulation. In a two-layer air tent, the outer layer is made of a stronger material that withstands harsh weather conditions and functions as a load-bearing layer that resists the positive pressure inside the tent, while the inner layer provides the air space necessary for adequate thermal insulation.
To further increase thermal insulation, air tent structures can be manufactured with three or four layers. In the event of heavy snowfall, deflating the air chambers reduces the air gaps between the layers, thereby helping to melt snow off the tent’s surface. The tent is designed to withstand snow and wind loads; however, in the event of strong winds or heavy snowfall, the manufacturer’s operating instructions must be strictly followed!
